SARA Race Report

May 29, 2000. Big Daddy's BBQ Sauce & Spices / Richards Motorsports race team was in action this holiday weekend. The SARA Late Model Series held a 100-lap event at the Auburndale Speedway located in central Florida. Auburndale is a quarter mile "bullring" track that is well known to stage exciting action. Despite triple digit temperatures and no wind, die-hard race fans packed the stands for this event.

The Big Daddy's BBQ Sauce & Spices / Richards Motorsports race team put forth a tremendous effort in preparation for this event. In addition to the usual racecar preparation, the team also "re-skinned" the racecar trailer, transforming it into an all-new appearance. It now has a black finish and beautiful new graphics. Once again intense preparation was the key ingredient to an outstanding performance. With driver Mike McCrary, Jr. behind the wheel, the black and red Big Daddy's BBQ Sauce & Spices number 8 Monte Carlo ran the fastest laps in the practice sessions.

Great performances continued in qualifying as Mike smartly handled the slick track conditions and came away quickest of the 34-car field. The fast qualifier position awarded the team with great satisfaction and many accolades from the fans and press. The race team looked awesome in their recently acquired new uniforms and took center stage during the driver introductions and interviews.

Mike started from the 7th position after the top ten drew pills to shuffle the field. The first 25 laps were marred by accidents throughout the field. Mike worked his way through these problems and traffic and was running 4th. Laps 25 through 50 saw some incredible action as the top five dealt with lapped traffic. At one point, Mike was attempting a pass on the outside when a lapped car forced a 3 wide situation. He threaded his way through somehow and was eventually able to complete the pass! Now running second, a few more caution flags interrupted Mike's attempts to take the lead. The final 50 laps could be best described as a clean dogfight between Mike and the eventual winner.

A second place finish and a lot of momentum was the team's final outcome. The fans got a great show as promised. Big Daddy's BBQ Sauce & Spices received much publicity as well as many inquiries about product availability.

Make plans to see the Big Daddy's BBQ Sauce & Spices / Richards Motorsports race team in action in Opp, Alabama on Saturday, June 10, 2000. Their pit area is open to all fans, please come by and visits!
