Racing and Big Daddy's BBQ Fight flames and rain for TOP 16

FORT WORTH, TEXAS, June 11, 2000 - Jimmy Kite, of Stockbridge, Georgia,
drove his Big Daddy’s BBQ/Founders Bank/ Blueprint Racing Special to a
16th-place finish in today’s Casino Magic 500k at Texas Motor Speedway. The
#27 G Force/ Oldsmobile started 23rd after qualifying for the event was
rained out. The team suffered through a fiery accident that eliminated the
team’s primary car on Thursday and the cancellation of qualifications to
post a top-16 finish.
“We finally got our first finish! It was great not to have any 58-lap pit
stops like at Vegas,” remarked Kite referring to the team’s struggles during
the 2000 Northern Light Series. “The Big Daddy's BBQ/ Blueprint team did a
great job with this '99 G Force. Almost every lap was flat for me. The
engine ran like a song. That racing was kinda fun. Jaques [Lazier] and I
had some great racing! It was a blast!”
“After Thursday's accident I just didn't know where we would be,” continued
the three-time Indianapolis 500 starter. “I only had four laps over 200 mph
this weekend and that was between two cars, the 2000 and the 1999! The Big
Daddy's BBQ/ Blueprint Racing team did a heck of a job for me! They busted
their tails all week. We came in here with the prospect of winning the race
and after the accident we felt like we didn't have a chance. The whole
weekend- the accident, the rain, everything- just wasn't going our way. To
come out here and run this well shows how good these guys are. A lot of
folks may not see this as a win but for what we had to deal with this
weekend, well, we'll go into Pikes Peak with our heads a little higher. I
owe these guys a win. As hard as they have worked for me, I owe them ten
wins!"
Jimmy Kite leaves Texas Motor Speedway 25th in the Northern Light Series
points with a season total of 33. The team collected $13,500 for the
effort.
The Big Daddy’s BBQ/ Blueprint Racing Team- lead by team manager and
engineer Brad McCanless and chief mechanic Randy Ruyle- did a spectacular
job assembling the team’s 1999 G Force back-up car. A mechanical failure in
Thursday practice session eliminated the 2000 G Force chassis from this
weekend’s competition. The accident, which occurred in turn-four, sent Kite
’s red Big Daddy’s BBQ car down the front stretch in a fiery display that
forced his quick exit from the still smoldering car.
“The team worked all Thursday night to get the ’99 car ready to go,”
McCanless explained. “That car wasn’t anywhere near ready so, to get it
running for the complete distance, really shows a lot about this team and
about Jimmy.”
The #27 Big Daddy’s BBQ/ Founder’s Bank/ Blueprint Racing Special will race
again next weekend at Pikes Peak International Raceway.
