John Paul Jr., has raced in NASCAR, SCCA TRANS-AM, Sports Car, USRRC, IMSA GTP and CART, including seven drives in the INDY 500 and a 1998 Lone Star 500 win and a 1983 Michigan 500 win. He finished second in class twice at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France and has two victories in the prestigious Rolex 24 at Daytona. He is currently driver of the #10 Indy Racing League (IRl) car as well as running selected USRRC/Petite Le Mans events for the General Motors Factory Corvette Racing Team. 

Career Highlights

1999
Currently driving for Jonathan Byrd/Cunningham Racing in the Indy Racing League. He is also factory driver for General Motors on their URRSC/Petite Le Mans Series Chevrolet Corvette Team in road racing, capturing the pole position at the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours at Sebring.

1998
Qualified 16th for the 82nd running of the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing", the Indianapolis 500 on May 24. He led over 98 miles in the race including the halfway challenge and ended up finishing 7th overall after a clutch problem in their final pit-stop caused a delay. Won the Lone Star 500 at Texas Motor Speedway in September.

1997
Ran entire IRL Season and also competed in the IMSA WSC Series. Sustained leg injuries in a practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on May 9th that eliminated him from competition for the next two events. He and his co-drivers at Dyson Racing won the coveted Rolex 24 at Daytona and followed that win with two second place finishes in the IMSA WSC Series.

1996
Qualified for three IRL events and stil finished 15th in IRL Points. Winner of the IMSA Exxon WSC Daytona finale.

1995
Competed the entire season in IMSA's GTS-2 series in a BMW-M3 as well as running selected WSC events.

1994
Two Exxon WSC races, finished 5th and 3rd. Ran Indianapolis 500 (25th) and Poenix (18th) CART Indy Car events.

1993
Finished fifth in the GTP final point standings after contesting seven of the 11 races driving the MOMO Nissan NPTI 90-30, Porsche Gunnal 96 and Joest Porsche 962C.

1992
Finished 10th in the Indianapolis 500.

1991
Ranked 20th in Camel GT after six starts.

1983
Won CART Indy Car race at Michigan International Raceway. Finished third in Las Vegas Indy Car race, ranked eighth in points.

1982
Camel GT Champion. Paul and father John Paul, Sr., won the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring in a Porsche 935 Turbo, the last time the same drivers and car won both classics in the same year. Last IMSA GT win came on September 12, 1982 at Road Atlanta, with his father, in a Porsche 935 Turbo.

1980
Scored first Camel GT victories at Lime Rock Park and Elkhart Lake and a Second place finish at Daytona finale with his father, John Paul, Sr., in a Porsche 935 Turbo. Had four SCCA Formula Ford victories, five 2nd places and four poles.

1979
Won first race of career at Sebring in SCCA Formula Ford.
